FAQ: Reindexing all existing documents

Sometimes it may be neccessary to reindex all existing knowledge documents.

Possible reasons are:
  • Moving powerKNOW to a new computer while retaining the existing data.

  • Loss of index data due to disk faillure...
Reindexing will not be neccessary for knowledge documents / attachments already correctly indexed. This is NOT a maintenance task.

In order to do the reindex all existing knowledge documents follow these steps:
  1. Make sure nobody is using powerKNOW

  2. Start powerKNOWcfg in the bin directory of powerKNOW
    Usually this directory is "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\powerKNOW\bin\powerKNOWcfg\bin" for IIS or "C:\Program Files\powerKNOW\bin\powerKNOWcfg\bin" for Cassini.

  3. Select "reIndexAll" from the dropdown box
    Depending on the amount of data reindexing of all documents may take its time.
