In powerKNOW keywords are organized in a tree structure. This feature
helps to present the keywords in a very organized and intuitive way.
The structured keyword tree is the method powerKNOW uses to bring
structure to the whole knowledge database. This structure is effectively classifying
the documents. This classification builds a powerful base for fast searching and
finding.
E.g.: A company building up a knowledge database for sales + marketing of cars
could use a keyword structure like this:
Products
Beta007 Roadster
Epsilon5 MegaMicroVan
Omega99 Truck
Competitors
Beta007 Roadster
Tobogan Sportscar
JetGo TurboDiesel
Epsilon5 MegaMicroVan
Omega99 Truck
Customers
Please notice that there are two different keywords having the text "Beta007 Roadster".
One representing information about competitors for this product and one representing
information about the product itself.
These are really different keywords. Seeing the tree it is easily seen that it
makes sense to present the information in this way.
Having a list of keywords associated with a document without seeing the tree
could yield to misunderstandings. Therefore everywhere in the application where
we show a simple keyword (without the tree) we add a parenthesis to show the path
of the keyword in the tree. E.g.: "Beta007 Roadster" on line 2 would show up as:
Beta007 Roadster (Products > Beta007 Roadster)
The structured keyword tree can be changed at any time. But be aware of the
logical implications:
If you add a keyword you should think about associating it with all
the already existing documents which are logically connected to this keyword.
